In its weekly bulletin released on December 9, the department noted that only a few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, parts of the Rift Valley itself, the Coast, North-eastern Kenya and the South-eastern lowlands are likely to experience occasional showers.

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has projected a predominantly hot and dry week across most parts of the country between December 9 and 15, even as isolated rainfall persists in select regions.

In its weekly bulletin released on December 9, the department noted that only a few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, parts of the Rift Valley itself, the Coast, North-eastern Kenya and the South-eastern lowlands are likely to experience occasional showers.

According to the forecast, daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected in the Coast, North-eastern and North-western regions, alongside parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.

Night-time temperatures are expected to fall below 10°C in sections of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley and areas surrounding Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Cloudy mornings with possible light rains are expected over parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Meru and Embu, before giving way to sunny intervals.

Afternoon and night showers may still occur in isolated locations.

At the Coast, sporadic morning, afternoon and night showers remain possible, while the South-eastern lowlands may receive occasional rainfall throughout the day.

North-eastern counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir and Garissa may also experience isolated morning rains and afternoon showers.

KMD’s review of weather conditions between December 1 and 7 shows most parts of the country remained generally sunny and dry, although some regions recorded isolated rainfall.

Isiolo NEMA station registered the highest weekly rainfall, at 59.5mm, including 49.2mm recorded in a single day on December 7.

Temperature analysis revealed that daytime temperatures increased in most monitoring stations, except in areas such as Lodwar, Suba, Lamu and Voi, which recorded a slight drop.

Wajir posted the highest daily maximum temperature at 37.3°C on December 1, while Narok recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 4.9°C on December 2. Lodwar and Nyahururu registered the week’s highest and lowest seven-day average temperatures respectively.

The department advised the public to use the weekly outlook alongside daily and five-day forecasts and noted that county-specific updates are available through local meteorological offices.
